Introduction

By the end of 2008, new media entrepreneur Steve Leach (Leach) had built up Bigmouthmedia Ltd. (Bigmouthmedia) into a leading digital marketing agency with a turnover of more than £ 100 million and a presence in 10 countries worldwide.2

His vision was to turn Bigmouthmedia into a £ 500 million revenue earning company by the end of 2009. This he planned to do through a combination of organic and inorganic growth.3 While the growth he envisioned was ambitious in itself, the economic downturn made it all the more challenging.

Bigmouthmedia was initially started as Vertigo Web Design in a basement in Edinburgh by Leach and his wife Heather Luscombe (Heather). This was after Leach had tried his hand at a number of other businesses which had proved to be either unsuccessful or only partially successful.
